Description
Located in the Memphis suburb of Germantown, the Electrophysiologist, who functions as the "electrician" of the heart, focuses on diagnosing and treating heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias) will manage conditions like atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia through advanced procedures, such as ablation and device implantation, to correct electrical issues.
Core Responsibilities
Diagnosis: Evaluate patients with arrhythmias, fainting (syncope), or palpitations using electrophysiology studies (EPS), Holter monitoring, and ECGs.
Device Implantation: Implant pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs).
Mapping: Utilize 3D mapping systems to identify the source of electrical issues during procedures.
Patient Management: Consult with patients in clinics and hospitals, managing long-term care for chronic arrhythmia conditions.
Cardiac Ablation: Cauterizing or freezing heart tissue to treat irregular heartbeats.
EP Study (EPS): Testing the heart's electrical system with catheters to trigger and locate arrhythmias.
Device Management: Placing and troubleshooting devices like Loop Recorders, Pacemakers, and ICDs.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Expertise in cardiac anatomy and electrical pathways.
Proficiency in sterile scrub techniques and catheter manipulation.
Ability to interpret complex electrical signals and 3D mapping data.
Strong communication skills to collaborate with general cardiologists and surgeons.
Education and Training
Medical Degree: MD or DO
Residency: Internal Medicine
Fellowship: Cardiology Subspecialty Fellowship
Specialization: Additional fellowship training in Cardiac Electrophysiology
